Bulldogs Fall to Gray Bats

On, what turned out to be a very nice evening at Spring Hill Field, the Bulldogs faced the Gray Bats in, what proved to be, the best pitchers' duel that the Bulldogs have been a part of.  Paul Altymer vs. Adam Phillip.  Both were commanding on the hill, missing many bats throughout the evening.  I do not have the lines on me but I would say that Altymer whiffed about 12, and Phillip struck-out 8-10.  The Bulldogs would strike first on a Bill Jacobs RBI single to left.  Greg Wittmer followed up a few innings later with a 2-run blast to left center field over the 315 foot sign.  That would be all of the scoring that the 'Dawgs could muster on this Monday night.  The Gray Bats managed to tie the score on a Mark Lombardi double in the 4th I think, and the game would progress into extra innings.  Due to the fact that the lights turn-off at 11:30PM, no inning can begin after 11:00Pm.  The Bulldogs were shut down in the top of the eigth inning, assuring them of a tie at best.  It was now the Gray Bats turn to strike.  Bottom-Eight and a runner on 2nd - Mark Lombardi homers to left center off of Phillip in walk-off fashion, and flipped the bat in celebration.  It was the Bulldog's 3rd loss in their weekend series that consisted of 4 games.

Notes:

 - Philipp pitched a hell of a game - the best he's thrown this season

 - We didn't have catcher's gear until 8:57Pm when BJ and Vinny returned from Joe Graff's house

 - More than 9 guys need to show up

 - The field at Spring Hill was actually in excellent shape - the best I have seen it in 4 years

 - It is more difficult to see when fielding than hitting

 - David Wallis is the nicest man playing the NABA

 - Gray Bats Blogging Staff - bite me

 - We need Bill Boyd

“David Wallis is the nicest man playing the NABA” Thanks Vinny! You guys have a good team, despite your record. I see you going far in the playoffs once you get your whole team together. BTW, I am the guy who writes the Gray Bats blog.

  3. actually Adam struck out 12 from what Bill told me (he has the book).

final inning there was a runner on first. after the game we talked about whether we should have walked the guy that hit the homerun, but that would have involved putting the winning run in scoring position. but the dude did double high off the wall earlier in the game.

also, BJ has a cannon behind the plate. gunning out 1 runner in 1 chance.

who thinks they are being censored?

  4. I’d love to Vinny but I’m on a meat-free diet.

  5. what where they doing at Joe’s for so long?

not to insinuate something that might be offensive.

  6. Wallis is a solid human being and his blog is well written and funny

  7. blame the lights
