In other news, Joe and I braved the weather last night to attend the PBL managers' meeting at Clancy's Pub.  Here are some highlights that I can remember or decipher from Joe's handwriting.

  1. The vote for switching to wood bats passed. So the PBL is now wood or composite bats - which hopefully will be a slight advantage to us, after playing with wood for several seasons.
  2. Players must play 5 minimum games to qualify for post season play.
  3. Stats are required to be entered for every game. Each team has 5 days to enter their stats from the previous game (I think).   At some point, if you do not have stats entered, you risk forfeiting games.  So we must keep a good book for every game and get stats updated!
  4. You are allowed 2 courtesy runners per game.  Also 1 designated runner.  The designated runner always runs for some other player in the lineup.  The designated runner cannot appear in the batting order but can play the field.  All of this must be marked in the book and given to the other team BEFORE the game starts.
  5. PBL All Star game will take place July 4th weekend.
  6. There are cash prizes for the top 8 teams in the league.  So if you make the playoffs, you are guaranteed at least a little bit of money back to your team.
  7. $25 fine for every game forfeited.
  8. I think we also voted on fining teams that do not show up to manager's meetings.

That's all I can think of.  Joe, chime in if you can think of anything else that was important.

  1. You have my notes… but that sounds right. Pine Pirates got the boot. We paid a $600 deposit to PBL, and a $500 deposit to the NABA. We have deposits from Gala, Graff, McCombie, Martin, Kramer, and Logan whence last I checked with Vinny….
