Home of the Pittsburgh NABA & PBL Bulldogs

4-0

Peter Venkman was out with a cold.  The Bulldogs were out in the cold.  But the bats stayed hot, and the Baby Bulldogs forged ahead defeating the Black Sox 11-8 at John Herb Field, getting off to their best start in franchise history after four games.

It was the first win for the Bulldogs against the Black Sox since 2007, after having been no-hit by them in 2009.

The Bulldogs were outhit 11-10, and all 10 hits were singles.  The Black Sox were led offensively by Ron Florian, who was 3-3 on the day with 3 runs scored, a stolen base and a walk.  Kenny Powers was 2-4, and Matt Slavonic on their squad was 2 for 3.  Alex Warren (the Orignal) went all 7 innings on the mound.

The Bulldogs went to emergency starter Adam Philip in place of Dan Morgan, who came down with the sickness prior to the game.  Philip gave the Bulldogs 2 innings, allowing 2 earned runs on short rest from Saturday.  Colin Peffley then went 5 strong innings allowing 4 earned runs the rest of the way while striking out 7.

Offensively, the Bulldogs were led by Matt Dugovich.  "Dugo" went 2-2 with 2 walks, 2 RBI, 2 SB, a run scored, and an outfield assist.  He later went home with two women, and a midget Sherpa.

The Black Sox put up three runs in the first, but the Bulldogs responded by plating 5 runs after two outs in the bottom of the second.  They would never relenquish the lead after that.  The had a four-run third inning that put them ahead 9-4, a lead that would prove to be all they needed.

The Bulldogs play the Black Sox again on July 17th at Moore Park.  The next game for the baby Bulldogs is May 1st at 8:30am vs. the Oilers.

  1. additional game notes: vinny broke another bat and lost part of his ear on the first base fence…rankin’s 2-4 day included no hits that made it to the grass at john herb…the commish got rung up on 2 pitches that were 5′ 5″ high while he stands 5′ 4″…braunlich’s ear bling distracted the blacksox from right field…my 2nd to home time on an rbi single took 25.8 seconds…and ohrman unhitched the meatwagon and invited me to a doubleteam

  2. Trojan what about adding when you mistakenly thought Vinny had a cup on? Vinny Gala = A Man’s Man

  3. Yes, that caused some moderate discomfort to me as a heterosexual male but was surprisingly gentle at the same time. I do appreciate the unsaid compliment depicted by Trojan’s actions, however…
