Bulldogs Sweep Titans in Opening Day Doubleheader

BELLEVUE, PA – The Rochester Inn Bulldogs opened their 2010 Season with impressive victories over the North Shore Titans, a product of the 2010 Pittsburgh NABA Expansion.  The Bulldogs, missing several new players as a result of the continuing collegiate baseball season, still found a way to emerge victorious on this balmy April afternoon.

Game 1 Recap

B.J. Rankin, the second year Head Coach of the Bulldogs, sent Adam Philipp to the hill to start the game.  Philipp and the Bulldogs, wearing their visiting red tops, would be on the offensive to begin the game; however, the Titan’s starter found a way to set the Bulldogs down 1-2-3 in the Top of the 1st inning.  This was not a theme for the rest of the game, as the Bulldogs exploded for a total of 12 runs on 10 hits, handily defeating the Titans by a final score of 12 – 2.

Philipp earned the win on the mound for the bulldogs, going 4 complete innings scattering 3 hits.  He would finish the game with 2 walks and 4 strikeouts.  Newly acquired Pat Ohrman would come on in the 5th and sit the Titans down in order.  He gave way to Eric McCombie to close the game, who enjoyed a quick 7th inning, shutting the door on the Titans in Game 1.

In the nightcap, Brian “Strommy Salami” Strom, was given the the start for the Bulldogs.  Strom would throw four shutout innings en route to the victory, as the Bulldogs would win via the mercy rule in the top of the 6th by a final score of 10-0.  Offensively, the Bulldogs were sparked in the 2nd inning with a leadoff double by Vinny Gala to straight-away center.  The Dawgs would load the bases with Pat Ohrman at the dish with 2 out.  Ohrman munched all over a pitch and hit it toward the 405 foot sign in left-center field leading to an oxygen-enriched bases clearing triple.  Adam Philipp would fly out to strand Ohrman at 3rd to end the inning.  The Dawgs would pile on a few more and Matt Dugovich would come on to close out the game.
