Game Day: Bulldogs v. Bullies

DISCLAIMER: This post will earn Ben Gwin some coinage on the following phrases: Dr. Peter Venkman, Brookline Bullies, and Kenny Powers.

The undefeated Bulldogs take on the undefeated Brookline Black Sox (Bullies) tonight at John Herb Field.  Game time is at 8:30pm.  Dan Morgan (Dr. Peter Venkman) is expected to get the nod on the hill for the Bulldogs, while Alex Warren is expected for the Bullies.

The first of two meeting this year, the Bulldogs look to exact revenge from last year’s 10-0 humbling at the hands of the Bullies.  JT Slavicek threw a no-hitter in that game, but he has been left off the Black Sox Roster for this contest.

Alex Warren or Alex Warren is expected to start this evening.  Alex Warren is new to the Black Sox, and is the younger cousin of Alex Warren.  Alex Warren last played for the Sox in 2008, as he was on the Owlz roster in 2009. A few years back he was considered by many to be the ace of their staff. Confused?  Dr. Peter Venkman had this to say in regards to the relative age and abilities of the Bullies hurlers, “Let's show this prehistoric bitch how we do things downtown... THROW IT!”.

The Bullies will be led by their Player/Coach/General Manager/Owner Kenny Rayl.  Kenny has taken to the nickname Kenny Powers in recent months, and has been seen mullet wig shopping the past few weeks.  Brian Strom offered to give him his old mullet, but Mr. Powers preferred something with a bit more jheri curl.

Jason Goldie and Ron Florian return to form the heart of a formidable order, and they’ve brought in a few new faces to round out their always impressive line-up.  They are fresh of an 8-0 drubbing of the Matadors, who have also returned in 2010 expecting to take the Allegheny Crown.

The Bulldogs will be without the services of Strom, Jarrod Harris, Jeff Trojan, and Schuyler Shaeffer tonight.  They will also lack the protection that Trojan provides to the meat of their order, and the comfort that protection can provide the staff.  Joe Graff, and Eric McCombie are also questionable, but George Nehay is expected to make his long awaited semi-pro debut.

Coach BJ Rankin will stir the offensive pot and mix in the veteran bats of Greg Wittmer and Vinny Gala with the youthful sluggers Pat Ohrman and Joey Braunlich.  Braunlich is nursing a minor shaving injury, although it is not expected to hinder his performance this evening.

A sizable crowd is anticipated for tonight’s contest.  Some Bulldogs were concerned that fans would have trouble finding the field.  “You don't think it's too subtle, you don't think people are going to drive down and not see the sign?” Dr. Venkman was quoted as saying.  Directions to the field can be found online at PittsburghNABA.com.
