The Pittsburgh Bulldogs (14-2) outlasted the Pittsburgh Hurricanes (13-3) on Sunday afternoon by a score of 3-2 at Burkett field to swipe first-place in the Allegheny Division.
Without a book, I am fairly useless when it comes to recapping a baseball game.
Luckily, this one had enough important mental bookmarks.
After trailing 2-0 in the early innings, the Bulldogs surged back with a three-run fifth-inning to take the lead. While the actual details are a bit sketchy, I do know that Matt Dugovich knocked in two-runs in the inning with a knuckling drive down the third baseline. Jeff Trojan followed with the go-ahead RBI on a sharply-hit bouncing double down the third baseline.
On the mound, Bulldog Adam Phillip held the defending-champ Hurricanes' to only a handful of hits in a seven-inning complete game victory.
The win gives the Bulldogs a driver's seat in the Allegheny Division, although two games remain against the Defending Champion 'Canes.
OTHER GAME NOTES:
- BJ Rankin had a pair of hits against the 'Canes while also anchoring the shortstop position.
- Dugovich led the Bulldog attack with two-RBI's on the day. Both of which came on a clutch hit in the fifth-inning. He also had another hit in the early frames.
- Trojan hit several balls hard on the day. His go-ahead RBI in the fifth led the Bulldogs to victory.
- Vinny Gala made several key plays on the day. Gala made a tough play on a high-bouncing toss in the final frame and also laid out in the same inning to rob an opposite-field line drive from finding a gap. Both plays secured the Bulldog victory. Gala also displayed the "Bulldog-way" after facing some soft-witted razzing from the Hurricane bench. Way to back it up on the field man! Pretty Hot And Tempting.
- Hurricane manager Bob Holloway was plunked twice (unintentionally) and was also caught stealing.

In other news.....
The 28+ Bulldogs (5-7) had a rough Sunday, losing a 10-run decision to South Hills(4-9). The Old Dogs battled to a 5-5 tie in the fifth-inning before crumbling. The Old Dogs have a lot of talent and look to rebound from this loss with a winning streak that will guide the team into the playoffs.

HA! Nice win.
“soft-witted”
Why does nobody ever seem to have “the book” in front of them when writing these things?
Lord only knows how much better (or worse) things could be…
